1Create a home for your project
create a home using Living Projects and call it TRIP TO EUROPE
Use your own project’s name.
What happens
“Create a home” creates a project folder in your storage, with the files and subfolders Living Projects needs to work. All the information about your project is stored here.
Keep these file and folder names unchanged so Living Projects can work properly.
- the Living Projects folder
- HOME.md
- the folder ending in RECORD
- each notes folder: Claude Notes, GPT Notes, Gemini Notes
- Parking Lot

2Save as you go
hotel booked for the 12th to the 16th; next, the train from Paris to Lyon. Save this.
A note is saved in GPT Notes. When the exact wording matters, ask it to save your exact words.
The words can differ a little. Look for: verified, the path, and your AI's notes folder.
3Continue in a new chat
we're working in TRIP TO EUROPE home — where were we?
What happens
Your AI uses the Living Projects plugin to read the saved information in your project’s home. It can then tell you where the project stands and help you continue. You don’t have to explain the project again.

Where it works
USING LIVING PROJECTS WITH DOT
With dot, you continue in one conversation. You can change topics, and dot keeps working between your messages, returning with updates or questions.
With Living Projects, dot reads your project homes and saves notes as you work. When you ask it to save something, it identifies the project from the topic. You can also name the project in your request.
ChatGPT, GPT Work, Codex and dot can all read and add to the same project.
To delete a dot, open ··· on its card and choose Delete. A new dot is created, and your project files stay in your storage.
USING LIVING PROJECTS IN CODEX
Codex works its own way: it works directly with your project’s files, runs code, and keeps technical notes about the work.
With Living Projects, Codex can read the project information you saved while working in ChatGPT or GPT Work, including your specifications and decisions. ChatGPT, GPT Work and Codex can all read and add to the same project.
Good to know
Permissionschoose when ChatGPT asks for approval
You can choose when ChatGPT asks for approval to use Living Projects. Go to Settings → Plugins → Living Projects and find Permission. You can also open ··· → Settings on the row with your account name.
Allow read-only tools: ChatGPT can read without asking, but asks before saving.
Allow low-risk tools: This is the default. ChatGPT decides which actions need your approval.
Allow all tools: ChatGPT can use Living Projects without showing an approval screen. Choose the setting you’re comfortable with. Living Projects doesn’t delete your files. When an entry is corrected, the original stays in the record, marked as replaced.
Connect another storage servicewhen you want to use more than one
In a chat where Living Projects is available, ask:
Follow the connection link and approve access on Google Drive’s page. Living Projects can then read and save projects in Google Drive as well as the storage you already connected.
If your project is in a storage service that isn't connected, Living Projects tells you which service you need and gives you a link to connect it.
Updateswhen a new version is available
When a new version of Living Projects is available, ChatGPT lets you know in the chat. To update, go to Settings → Plugins → Living Projects → Refresh tools. Then open a new chat to continue.
Upload new version in the top menu is for uploading plugin files and isn’t used for Living Projects.
Remove Living Projectsuninstall the plugin and keep your files
Remove it
Settings → Plugins → Living Projects → the top ··· (next to Try in chat) → Uninstall.
Your projects stay in your own storage as plain files. You can read, copy, or move them without Living Projects, and connect the plugin again later to keep working. Removing the plugin leaves your project files in your storage.
Is Living Projects connected?check the plugin and storage connection
Open Settings → Plugins and look for Living Projects in your installed plugins.
Ask:
Your AI uses Living Projects to check your connected storage and list your projects. If you haven’t created any projects yet, the list is empty.
Coming from Gemini?why you don't see every step here
Gemini shows a card asking for permission, and where it’s saved; the note’s text isn’t always shown. ChatGPT does the same work without announcing each step. It confirms that the information was saved and verified.
To see what ChatGPT saved, ask What did you save? or open the project’s GPT Notes folder in your storage.
Changing time zoneswhen you travel
Living Projects records your time zone when you connect. If you travel to a different time zone, reconnect so your notes use the local date and time.
Where your notes are savedthe "GPT Notes" folder
ChatGPT, GPT Work, Codex and dot all save notes in your project’s GPT Notes folder. Each note starts with its date, for example: Saved 2026-09-29 · GPT
If ChatGPT asks what to call its notes folder, use GPT Notes. Keep this name unchanged so Living Projects can work properly.
If your settings look different, check your platform’s current setup instructions.
